The Nutritional Requirements of Clostridium aceticum.

چکیده
Wieringa (1936; 1939-1940) described the isolation of a soil anaerobe, Closstridium aceticum, which was able to convert hydrogen and carbon dioxide to acetic acid. The nutritional requirements of this organism appeared to be complex, an extract of mud being an indispensable constituent of the medium. We have made further investigations of the nutrition of C. aceticum, which have led to the identification of the essential nutrients, although some stimulating factors remain to be characterized.

Draft Genome Sequence of Clostridium aceticum DSM 1496, a Potential Butanol Producer through Syngas Fermentation
Clostridium aceticum DSM 1496 is a Gram-negative anaerobic chemolithoautotrophic acetogenic bacterium that is capable of producing commodity chemicals from syngas fermentation. In this study, we report the draft genome sequence of the C. aceticum DSM 1496 strain (4.16 Mb) to elucidate the syngas fermentation metabolic pathway.
متن کاملThe Complete Genome Sequence of Clostridium aceticum: a Missing Link between Rnf- and Cytochrome-Containing Autotrophic Acetogens
UNLABELLED Clostridium aceticum was the first isolated autotrophic acetogen, converting CO2 plus H2 or syngas to acetate. Its genome has now been completely sequenced and consists of a 4.2-Mbp chromosome and a small circular plasmid of 5.7 kbp. Sequence analysis revealed major differences from other autotrophic acetogens. C. aceticum contains an Rnf complex for energy conservation (via pumping ...
متن کاملComplete Genome Sequence of Rnf- and Cytochrome-Containing Autotrophic Acetogen Clostridium aceticum DSM 1496
Here, we report the closed genome sequence of Clostridium aceticum, an Rnf- and cytochrome-containing autotrophic acetogen that is able to convert CO2 and H2 to acetate using the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway. The genome consists of a circular chromosome (4.2 Mbp) and a small circular plasmid (5.7 kbp).
متن کاملElectrosynthesis of organic compounds from carbon dioxide is catalyzed by a diversity of acetogenic microorganisms.
Microbial electrosynthesis, a process in which microorganisms use electrons derived from electrodes to reduce carbon dioxide to multicarbon, extracellular organic compounds, is a potential strategy for capturing electrical energy in carbon-carbon bonds of readily stored and easily distributed products, such as transportation fuels. To date, only one organism, the acetogen Sporomusa ovata, has b...
متن کاملHydrogen utilization by clostridia in sewage sludge.
A sporeformer morphologically different but physiologically similar to Clostridium aceticum Wieringa was isolated from sewage sludge. It used large amounts of H2 and CO2, converting them chiefly to acetic acid. Growth occurs anaerobically on yeast extract alone, but after the nutrients in yeast extract are used, growth continues at a reduced rate, supported by the conversion of the gases to ace...
